Homebass Communications presents A year in Bass

I should have uploaded this ages ago but this is the recording from the Homebass Communications one year anniversary in 2001. Recorded live at Cafe Democ this special event played host to JB aka Dread Bass and Vocalist Dark Angel (Moby). The event was also broadcasted live on the Homebass show that took place live every saturday from 2000 t0 2005 on Fat 107 fm. The mix really shows how fast dnb music grew in Thailand since its beginning’s in 97. A lot of great memories really come from listening to this mix, I hope you can listen to it and get a better idea of what kind of sounds were being played during those days. Fast forward to present day and Dnb / bass music is huge is Thailand with many crews and collectives running tings’. Its really great to see that our hometown has so many good nights going on. In 2013 we also plan on the Dubway 6 year anniversary. Please stay tuned for news regarding that session.

asia bass comments

The asia bass release party was a great success. We didnt get as many people as we wanted but even still the turn out was about 200 peeps inside. Everyone played extremely well and im very impressed by celcius set. As for the cd we’ve only given out a few but so far the comments have been interesting. Nobody had critisized the cd so I’m guessing that Its ok. The compilation goes on sale in april 10 so thats right before songkran and I’m hoping that it will do well. Lets see what happens in the future.

asia bass compilation cd release party @club astra march 31

As usual with any shindigg ive thought of organising, things have fallen behind shcedule. Flyers for the party have not been distributed and apparently there seems to be very little energy of the masses. Its gone to the point where i am very anxious and sometimes nervous about the day of the event march 31. Asia bass is an event that I personally organised, this event is to showcase the dopest dj’s from around the region. So far we’ve had Kiat, dx, jerome, lowe, magnetic soul crew and conroy. Most of the parties have been quite successfull. But the recent year at astra has not been so good, and thats not just with my parties but with a bunch of other events run by other organisations. This time there will be kiat from metalheads, tbase, celcius from javabass and p c lab all playing live. So its quite important that people go and see for themselves what these djs and producers can do. On top of that the party will also be the release date for the asia bass cd compilation. As for the compilation its a cd with all of tracks made by producers in the region. Many times the djs that have played for asia bass have passed me tracks that they have produced , I think that these tracks are very good and thats why ive decided to put the tunes on cd and release it to the public so that they can enjoy them too. Asian drum n bass has still got a long way to go in terms of production, but I really admire the hard work and determination from many of these producers. That to me is something that I admire and I feel that I should support completely. The cd is in no way chart topping, a big tune selling thing… the cd is something like a progress report so that you can check how things are going in 07, we plan on doing the cd every year so we all can check how much we progressed through out the years. In all this asia bass session will be the last one for us at club astra, and i’m very happy and honoured to be working with so many artists that i respect and admire from around asia. I hope that people will also feel as I do and if not at least i hope that there still intrested in our awsome music scene and street culture.

red eyes

I’ve been a huge fan of red eyes since his very first release. I had met red eyes through mutual friends and when i finally had the chance to organise his party in bangkok i fealt very honoured. The beneath the bassline session v.3 was the last session for 2006, and of course it was to be held at our little home club astra. The line up for the night would be dj natty, myself, and red eyes + mc youthman. Now since the days that i’ve been promoting and organising dnb events ive never in my mind had the notion that i would do huge gigs with A list djs. I ‘ve allways been in the underground and thats where im goin go to stay. I’ve had disputes over business partners whether to book this person or not. simply i dont give a fuck about a superstar dj, and red eyes is certainly not such a dj. He has in my opinion earned his stripes on the dnb scene, he is certainly been out there working hard and producing top quality dnb tunes. I respect him deeply also because he hasn’t jumped on the big tune bandwagon. I think its artist like this who need to promoted and need to big’d up. As for the night , the crowd was quite good. certainly better then expected. Red eyes played alot harder then i thought he would, but it kept booties moving on the dance floor either way. Youthman as an mc is superb, hes like stick of dynamite .. he just blows up completely. In all i had a fantastic time, and i hope the central massive crew did too. I would also like to big up my gf, and of course julien the only two people that ever beleived in me and gave me much needed support through out this project.

dj yas & rino latina

img_8545.JPG

dj yas and rino latina are two of japans most respected hip hop artists. Unlike most of japans hip hop elite both yas and rino have allways strayed well way from the whole gangster rapper/bling type deal. In other words they’ve been just themselves and only themselves throughout there whole career, that is some thing that i admire about people the most , is that they can just be themselves and not have to worry about stupid mtv marketing people to tell them what to do.

As for them gig last night i was completey blown away by the two. On the decks yas was dropping old school hip hop, bossa nova, funk and weird electronica sounds. On the mic rino completely set it on fire, honesty to have heard him on dj krush’s album way back and finally getting to see him live was crazy! Rinos flow and show manship alongside yas was super tight. I really was hoping that many people would have been able to check them out.

unfortunatley last night might have had a great dj and mc but the crowd was not there. Though across the street at route , the only place in town where you can see fake gangsters, teenage wannabees, ruff ryder turbans and 50 cent clones was packed to its rafters. doesnt anyone love “real” hip hop? …. no sorry not hip hop just real “music” .

One last thing that i will say though is that i really had such a great time hangin out with those guys, i really feel that ive come to know them and there music better. also i feel very inspired from meeting them and i one day hope to be able to add my vision to this so called “music scene” of ours.

new zealand

New Zealand was such a cool place to be. It reminds me of vancouver only that it is much smaller and more quiet. For such a small city wellington does have a vibrant arts and music scene. where ever you look there are tons of cool graphiti all over the place, and as allways you can hear dnb music booming in the background of some trendy clothing stores. However in Turoa it was extremely quiet. It was the most quiet ski resort that ive ever been to in my life. Though having said that i dont think that it was a bad thing since we were asleep at 9 pm everyday. I really wish that the snow conditions were a bit better. The snow conditions at the time were spring skiing conditions, so the snow was a bit slushy and not very soft. But still i had an awsome time and hope to be back there sometime again in the future.

davinci code

The davinci code was such a complet let down. There was so much hype on this film, and everyone including myself was suckered into watching it. The first thing that i will say about this film is that the directing and editing was just not up to par with the book, there was no suspense, instead half way through the film you completely lose interest in what was happening. Another reason for it being such a bad film is that the albino monk guy, who you think would have so much role as being the main shit disturber in the film, with his self mutilation, albino skin and his crazy stare – really didnt have much of a strong role in anything, he was taken hostage, put in the trunk of a care, was double crossed, and to top it off he got killed so easily. He wasnt very menacing at all! The last thing that i would have to about the film is, why make such a big deal about who or what book should dictate the core of jesus christs teachings. even if the virgin mary was not a virgin at all and was his boo, shorty, sweety pie or girlfriend. who cares and why would anyone go to great lengths to protect a secret llike that. It just doesn have anything to do with what christianity or what jesus christ was about. All in all davinci code was just the right film to sway would be beleivers of jesus christ into satanic cults, hare krishnas or some other weird doomsday cult.
